The Third Place on a Third Rail Issue: An Analysis of Starbucks’ Race Together Initiative

 

When Starbucks launched its Race Together initiative in spring 2015 in response to racial issues in the United States, it was met with backlash. The public was confused as to why a company would get close to this sensitive social issue, and many considered the initiative a failure. However, Starbucks doubled-down and expanded its commitment to the issue. This case study examines how Starbucks attempted to alleviate racial unrest through a broad platform. Although the launch was not well received, Starbucks' determination in addressing racial tensions demonstrates the corporation's belief in using its resources and scale to influence social change.

Lululemon Yoga Pants: Too Sheer for Comfort

 

On March 18, 2013, Lululemon Athletica, a yoga-inspired athletic apparel company issued a press release announcing a recall of its top selling yoga pants. Store managers raised concerns that several styles of its black yoga pants were too sheer, and the pants were appearing see-through when consumers executed certain yoga positions and stretches. Lululemon identified its signature blend of nylon and lycra fabric, luon, as the source of the problem.

A Deeper Look into the The Little Sisters of the Poor

 

Little Sisters of the Poor is a global religious charity that focuses on assisting the poor and elderly in local communities with food and lodging. The purpose of this research report is to identify the organization's concerns and discover what motivates donors and volunteers to continue to bring awareness and funding to the organization. The report shows examples of primary, secondary and quantitative research.
